BBC Radio Scotland has commissioned a satirical sketch show encouraging new writers to submit material, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.

Airing early next month and running for eight 30-minute episodes, Noising Up will star former BBC New Comedy Award winner Stephen Buchanan alongside Scot Squad’s Karen Bartke and Manjot Sumal, plus Zara Janjua (Growing Up Scottish) and Lana Pheutan (OMG!).

Covering all “the political movers and shakers”, producers pledge the show “will also poke fun at everything from television and film to music and sport, satirising all that’s happening right and what might just be round the corner”.

Also available on BBC Sounds, Noising Up is produced by The Comedy Unit (Limmy’s Show, Gary: Tank Commander) and was commissioned by BBC Scotland’s Gavin Smith, commissioning executive for comedy, scripted and entertainment, and Gareth Hydes, commissioning editor for radio and events.

“The BBC has a strong and proud tradition of producing satirical comedy which sends up and rips in to the public figures who dominate the news agenda” the pair said in a joint statement. “Noising Up not only presents us with the opportunity to take a swipe at the topics of the day using some of the best comic voices Scotland has to offer but it also offers us the chance to develop and nurture new comic writers of the future whilst serving up some much needed laughs to the audience.”

Penned by an undisclosed “team of emerging and established writers”, aspirant scribes who wish to contribute can send their ideas to The Comedy Unit via an email address. The producers have published a style guide and submission instructions on their website.
