A recently resurfaced video of David Walliams is making fans feel a little bit queasy, with some even calling for authorities to launch an investigation.
The footage from a 2007 BBC documentary sees the comedian performing in a Little Britain show in Australia as his character ‘Des Kaye’, a gay former children’s entertainer.
Although the documentary isn’t available to watch on BBC iPlayer, footage from it is still available to watch on YouTube, and recently went viral again on Twitter in the wake of Walliams’ recent Britain’s Got Talent controversies.
In his stage show, Walliams, as Des Kaye, invites three audience members up on stage to play a game of ‘hide the sausage’.
When he asks the boys their age, they each say 16, 17 and 18.
“Bingo,” says ‘Des’, when one of the boys says he’s just 16 years old.
“You’re a big boy for 16 aren’t you? That’s what I’ll tell the judge.”
Later in the video, there’s a compilation of ‘Des’ assuring each young boy that they’re with ‘uncle Des’ before planting a kiss on them.
And it only gets worse from there. When the game of ‘hide the sausage’ begins, ‘Des’ goes straight for each boy’s crotch.
In some cases, he pushes his face into their groin, and in others, he pulls down the boys’ trousers to expose their bare buttocks to the audience.
Each boy looks deeply uncomfortable during the ‘game’ and tries to force a smile for the hysterical audience.
Other clips show ‘Des’ pinning boys down on stage and humping them from behind.
Speaking about the sketch, Walliams said: “It didn’t start off like that. It kind of grew as I became greedy for laughs.”
He adds that it was important to ‘know the boundaries’, explaining ‘if I started exposing their penis or something, I don’t know, it would just be horrible then. It would just be abuse.”
As soon as the video was re-shared on Twitter this week, the horrified reactions started rolling in.
“I can’t watch the whole thing – it makes me feel ill,” complained one viewer.
“Saying this type of humor has aged badly is understating it quite a bit. Bloody hell,” tweeted a second.
Some fans are even calling for the children’s writer to be investigated after watching the unsavory clip.
“David Walliams in plain sight. Abusive for ‘entertainment’. This needs investigation. He needs to be held to account,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another concurred: “This is vile. Is he being investigated?”
