EastEnders has paid tribute to Neighbors with a special sketch and goodbye messages in honor of the Australian soap opera’s final episode airing tonight in the UK after 37 years on screen.
The BBC soap posted a video to Twitter, alongside the caption: “Is that Dr Karl Kennedy in Walford?! From everyone here at #EastEnders, thank you @Neighbors for 37 wonderful soap years!”
In the sketch, none other than Dr Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher) walks into the cafe, much to the delight of Linda (Kellie Bright), who had been expressing her sadness over Neighbors coming to an end just moments before.

After Linda gets a selfie with the Aussie actor, he exits and EastEnders cast members give their heartfelt goodbyes to Neighbors.
Among those bidding farewell were Tameka Empson (Kim Fox), Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell), Balvinder Sopal (Suki Panesar), Natalie Cassidy (Sonia Fowler), Charlie Brooks (Janine Butcher), Kim Medcalf (Sam Mitchell), Gurlaine Kaur Garcha (Ash Panesar), Jamie Borthwick (Jay Brown) and Danny Dyer (Mick Carter).
Cassidy said: “You’ve given us 37 years of joy, and I’m just so sad to see that you’re going”, while Brooks added: “What an incredible run. I remember watching it, I was totally obsessed with Scott and Charlene!”
Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson on Neighbors and is one of the show’s original stars, feels that the soap deserves another chance after its shock axing.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spyhe explained: “Ending the show is an economic decision, so why shouldn’t the ABC – which is owned by the Australian public – take it on?
“Then Neighbors would literally be owned by the Australian public, to continue that legacy of giving work to actors, giving work to crew, giving work to production staff, and giving actors training.
“The amount of people who over the last 37 years have trained and gained such skills from Neighbors is incredible. It’s in the tens of thousands. So to lose something like that, I think, really is a shame.”
Neighbors airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 and streams on My5. The series finale will air in the UK on July 29 at 9pm on Channel 5.
In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach and streams on 10 Play.
