Nationwide kid drawing contest seeks to sketch out future visions

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is conducting a children’s drawing competition – themed “Digital Education, Science and Technology, and ASEAN Cooperation – to celebrate the official inauguration of the ASEAN Center for Digital Education and to celebrate Cambodia’s hosting of the upcoming 41st ASEAN Summit.

Ministry secretary of state Kim Sethany presided over an August 31 meeting with the management of primary schools in Phnom Penh to plan the final stages of the contest. The competition is open to all private and public primary schools.

Primary schools across the Kingdom will select the most stand-out drawings for submission to municipal and provincial education departments by September 6.

Once a shortlist of 20 to 30 drawings has been drawn up, they would be submitted to the ministry’s Primary School Department, where a final 15 would be selected by September 24. The final entries would be beautiful and reflect the theme of the competition.

According to the ministry’s notice, students can make a drawing which reflects any of the three topics offered. “Digital Education” may refer to the current development of the ways they learn in the classroom, at home or in the library. “Science and Technology” should reflect STEM education (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or the practical application of science and technology. “ASEAN Cooperation” would illustrate the positive effects of the Kingdom’s chairmanship of the bloc.
