The event was announced earlier today, September 1, on the series’ official Twitter account. The guest list includes the entire main cast, with Saori Onishi who plays Shikimori; Izumi voice actor Shuichiro Umeda; Misato Matsuoka who was cast as Nekozaki; Rina Hidaka as the stoic Hachimitsu; My Hero Academia star Nobuhiko Okamoto, who played Inuzuka and finally, Ayaka Fukuhara, who was Shikimori’s rival-turned-friend Kamiya. Alongside the main cast, theme song artists Yuki Nakashima and Nasuo were also invited to the prom event.

Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie is the anime adaptation of author Keigo Maki’s comedy romance manga by the same name, which has for 14 volumes in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket magazine from 2019 until present, while the anime ran from April to July 2022.

The series was highly anticipated leading up to its Spring 2022 release, with the titular character being hailed as a forerunner of the unofficial title of “waifu of the season”. The anime loosely adapts material from the manga with reinterpreted timelines and character roles, and it was produced by the Doga Kobo studio.

The series follows Izumi, a high schooler who is prone to bouts of inexplicable misfortune, and his relationship with the most popular girl in school, Shikimori. Izumi thinks his girlfriend is very cute, but whenever he gets into trouble, Shikimori becomes an incredibly cool heartthrob who makes his heart skip a beat. The series’ biggest draw is its do-it-all heroine, someone who is so cool that everyone can’t help but fall in love with her. Hailed for its portrayal of a wholesome relationship and a refreshing brand of masculinity in main character Izumi, Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie comes recommended for fans of romantic comedies that boast a little something extra.
